Internet Essentials Application
Internet Essentials Application :- Community Technology Network recently organized a successful sign-up event for the Comcast Internet Essentials program at the Willie B. Kennedy senior apartments. Scott Adams from Comcast presented Ruilian Liang with a brand-new laptop, which she won in the event’s raffle.
Comcast launched the Internet Essentials program in 2011, offering internet access for just $9.95 per month to help low-income Americans bridge the digital divide. Over the past six years, it has grown into the largest and most comprehensive broadband adoption initiative in the nation, connecting more homes than all similar programs combined.
The program takes a three-part approach to tackle barriers to broadband adoption. It provides affordable internet connectivity at home, access to computer hardware, and collaborates with local organizations to promote digital literacy in communities. This holistic approach ensures that more individuals have the opportunity to access the benefits of the internet and digital technology.
How Internet Essentials works
Internet Essentials, provided by Comcast, also known as Xfinity, offers a low-cost internet service aimed at bridging the digital divide. Established in 2011, Internet Essentials has catered to over 10 million families to date. The standard plan provides download speeds of 50 Mbps at a mere $9.95 per month, while the Internet Essentials Plus package offers faster 100 Mbps speeds for $29.95 per month. However, eligibility for Internet Essentials is subject to certain criteria.
To qualify, individuals must meet the requirements for specific government assistance programs and reside in an area covered by Comcast’s service.
Applying for Internet Essentials program
As a long-time Xfinity Internet customer who recently enrolled in ACP with Xfinity, I encountered issues while attempting to apply for the Internet Essentials or Internet Essentials Plus program through the online application process at https://www.xfinity.com/learn/internet-service/internet-essentials/apply. Despite being assured by a Chat Agent that my situation would be accommodated, I found that the application process failed to address my specific circumstances.
This discrepancy has raised concerns about the accuracy of other information provided by the Chat Agent. As such, I am seeking clarification on the eligibility criteria and application process for the Internet Essentials program, particularly for existing Xfinity Internet customers enrolled in ACP with Xfinity.

Emergency broadband relief aid applies to this program
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, efforts were made to ensure internet accessibility for families, notably through the federal Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). Under the ACP, households can receive a subsidy of up to $30/mo. ($75/mo. for those on tribal lands) toward their internet plans. For Internet Essentials customers, this subsidy could mean accessing internet service at no cost. New customers need to sign up for service, while existing ones are automatically eligible.
Additionally, Comcast has implemented measures to support Internet Essentials users during the pandemic. Recognizing the increased demand for online activities like remote work and learning, Comcast boosted the speed of the base Internet Essentials plan from 25 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload to 50 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload, enhancing connectivity for users.
